Stamford Mathletes Rock!

Best wishes to twenty-four Stamford district students in grades 6-8, who will represent Cloonan, Scofield Magnet, and Turn of River middle schools at the Southwest Connecticut Chapter MATHCOUNTS competition at Fairfield University, which is tentatively re-scheduled to Saturday, February 16, at Fairfield University.

This event was delayed one day due to weather. It is organized by volunteers who are members of the Connecticut Society of Professional Engineers. Ike Heitlinger is the chapter coordinator.

Stamford district students were coached for the competition by parent volunteer Roxy Noordeen (at Cloonan) and by teachers Melinda Mandics (at Scofield) and Jillian Mallozzi (at Turn of River).

Enthusiastic math students in grades 4-6 and their parents are welcome to observe the lightening-fast Countdown Round in Gonzaga Hall at approximately 1pm. This round is moderated by Cablevision News12 anchorperson Tom Applebee.

The Southwest Connecticut Chapter MATHCOUNTS competition typically includes at least 120 students from 20 (or more) schools in Fairfield County. Those who score in the top quartile advance to state-level competition at the University of Hartford on Saturday, March 9, and the top four students at that event represent Connecticut at the national MATHCOUNTS competition which begins Friday, May 10, in Washington, DC.
